Katherine Chancellor Lives On

A fan's perspective from last year's charity tea in Vancouver

By Steph Troughton

Kate and friends at the 2013 Vancouver TeaJeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) may have left us all but she was front and center at Kate Linder's 15th annual Y&R tea held in Vancouver, July 20, 2013.

An endearing video of the nearly 40-year Young and Restless veteran opened the event for the approximately 400 fans that filled the Hyatt Regency ballroom.

Kate Linder, who plays Esther, Katherine's maid and coordinates the annual event says the loss of her co-star had been incredibly challenging for her. She shared more than three decades of rehearsing lines with the much-loved and sometimes controversial business mogul.

"You spend so much time with your co-workers, sometimes it's harder to get over that loss than it is with your friends and family," she admits.

The show must go on though so writers and producers have been working diligently to create a story line that will carry on the Katherine Chancellor legacy for a long time to come.

"Beginning August 16, I think fans will enjoy what is planned," says Linder. "The story will involve her (Katherine Chancellor) for a long, long time."

Annually, Linder's High Tea event raises between $15,000 and $20,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. This year's fund-raiser brought together the show's Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin), Jess Walton (Jill Abbott), Tricia Cast (Nina Webster) and Jeff Branson (Ronan Malloy), who filled in for Michelle Stafford, who was unable to attend due to a work conflict.
